culture change & equity and Justice workshops

supporting multicultural organizations to live their values of equity & justice.

As a former civil rights attorney, Rebecca’s approach is informed by experience in structural and institutional advocacy and understanding of racism and oppression. As an artist and facilitator, her methods are led by heart and inquiry, and intuitive communication.

Rebecca’s practices are backed by research designed for the centers of our mind, body, and creative force. She understands that organizations are made up of individual people creating and enacting policies and practices; therefore, tactics for change must support individual behavioral change in addition to policy shifts.

What does it look like to engage in culture change?

Over several months, Rebecca facilitates a dive deep into your organization’s culture, structure, and leadership styles. She helps uncover areas that are out of alignment and advises on how to live and work within your values rooted in principles of anti-racism, equity, and justice.

Workshops

Workshops are a gateway into long term cultural change work, which can be offered in one session or in a series. Following an initial intake, Rebecca creates a customized workshop(s) to respond to the specific challenges of your community. Below are examples of past workshops. For a deeper exploration of the topics, collaborate with Rebecca on a retreat.

  • This workshop challenges groups to confront explicit and implicit beliefs and actions that can maintain an oppressive status quo, such as implicit bias, colorblind racism/whiteness as default, tokenization, and microagressions. This workshops is rooted in intersectionality and community dialogue. We not only examine these topics, but strategize, as a community, about how to take action to heal and move through these phenomena in community.

  • Due to the punitive and carceral culture that we live in, the term accountability is often linked with punishment and exclusion rather than with an opportunity for growth and transformation. In this workshop, we engage with accountability as a tool for community building and strategize on embedding processes for accountability in DEIA work/ workplace culture.

  • Transforming knowledge into demonstrable action can be challenging. This workshop serves as a catalyst for the process of embodying the information, tools, and tactics of anti-racism and oppression. Using self-reflection, devised theater activities, vocal soundscapes, intuitive movement, and group discussion, we will identify our limiting ideas and challenges around releasing social beliefs and behaviors that can uphold oppression towards ourselves and others.

  • Whether spoken or unspoken, there are always rules of the road in every space. Some key questions are who crafted those rules, do they honor the humanity of the people adhering to them, and how are people held accountable to those rules? In this session, groups are guided through a consensus-drive process to craft a Community Agreement where equity, mutual respect, and creativity can thrive from establishing culture to creating connection around everyday office practices. This process requires a minimum of two-sessions.

  • This workshop is for people who have the desire and capacity to take the lead at creating change within their working environment, and are looking for tactics and tools to support an impactful process. We work together to identify shared group goals, analyze power, and create strategy. Practices for self-care and meeting guidelines that do not replicate traditionally oppressive practices of working are also offered.
